In April, Spotify announced a discounted entertainment bundle with video-on-demand provider Hulu, which included discounted rates for university students.

In 2017, Midroll Media underwent a rebranding, making Stitcher the parent company to Midroll Media and Earwolf, another entity under the E.W. On August 13, 2020, Epic Games, the maker of the popular game Fortnite, sued Apple and Google after its hugely popular video game was removed from Apple and Google’s App Store. The suits come after bookkeeping both Apple and Google blocked the game after it introduced a direct payment system, effectively shutting out the tech titans from collecting fees. In September 2020 Epic Games founded the Coalition for App Fairness together with other thirteen companies, which aims for better conditions for the inclusion of apps in the app stores.

In December, Spotify and Tencent’s music arm, Tencent Music Entertainment , agreed to swap stakes and make an investment in each other’s music businesses. As a result of this transaction, Spotify gained a 9% stake in TME with TME gaining a 7.5% stake in Spotify. Spotify offers digital copyright restricted recorded music and podcasts, including more than 70 million songs, from record labels and media companies. As a freemium service, basic features are free with advertisements and limited control, while additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are offered via paid subscriptions.

A few days later, Instagram announced « Story Search », in which users can search for geographic locations or hashtags and the app displays relevant public Stories content featuring the search term. Since December 2016, posts can be « saved » into a private area of the app. The feature was updated in April 2017 to let users organize saved posts into named collections.

2014: Additional Platforms And Acquisition By Facebook

Mueller contacted Facebook subsequently to the company’s disclosure that it had sold more than $100,000 worth of ads to a company with links to the Russian intelligence community before the 2016 United States presidential election. In July 2019, Facebook advanced its measures to counter deceptive political propaganda and other abuse of its services. The company removed more than 1,800 accounts and pages that were being operated from Russia, Thailand, Ukraine and Honduras. In May 2019, Tel Aviv-based private intelligence agency Archimedes Group was banned from Facebook for “coordinated inauthentic behavior” after Facebook found fake users in countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Facebook investigations revealed that Archimedes had spent some $1.1 million on fake ads, paid for in Brazilian reais, Israeli shekels and US dollars. Facebook gave examples of Archimedes Group political interference in Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia. The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab said in a report that « The tactics employed by Archimedes Group, a private company, closely resemble the types of information warfare tactics often used by governments, and the Kremlin in particular. »

Shortly after its release, reception issues were discovered by consumers, due to the stainless steel band around the edge of the device, which also serves adjusting entries as the phone’s cellular signal and Wi-Fi antenna.
